MARSHFIELD — Concerts supporting local student musicians, hands-on art classes and holiday shopping opportunities are on the calendar at Chestnut Center for the Arts as the center prepares for the holiday season. During a Nov. 5 interview with Marshfield Broadcasting, center representative Edie outlined upcoming activities, including two November concerts featuring Marshfield High School performers. A Jazz Fest concert will begin at 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15, featuring Marshfield High School jazz bands and the UW–Madison Jazz Orchestra. Proceeds will benefit the high school’s instrumental music department. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students, with tickets available at the door. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and seating is general admission. The following Sunday, Nov. 22, Marshfield High School’s Madrigal singers will present a Holiday Madrigal Concert beginning at 1:30 p.m. The costumed performance is expected to last approximately 45 minutes. Admission is free, with donations accepted to support the school’s Madrigal program. In the gallery, Jeff Anderson’s “Scorched and Sketched” exhibition continues through Nov. 25. The second-floor gallery is accessible by a lift. Following that exhibition, the center will display its Community Canvas Collage, featuring 200 canvases measuring 6 by 6 inches. The display will be part of the Holiday Showcase scheduled for Dec. 5 and 6. Holiday shoppers can visit the center’s Sip and Shop event Nov. 28. Plans include hot chocolate, cider, building tours and an opportunity to browse artwork and gifts created by participating artists. The gift shop also is adding Saturday hours from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., along with evening hours during events, to accommodate visitors who work during the day. Several upcoming classes offer opportunities to create art and explore cooking. A Ball Jar décor class will run from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14. Participants will turn a canning jar into a centerpiece. The $20 fee includes supplies. A two-part glue batik class is scheduled for Dec. 1 and 2, from 6 to 8 p.m. each evening. The $30 class will guide participants through designing, painting and finishing a fabric piece. Culinary Kids sessions are scheduled for Nov. 7 and 21, from 10 a.m. to noon. Children will prepare and sample foods from different parts of the world, and parents may stay. Registration is available online. The center expects to release its January-through-March class schedule in December. Chestnut also offers space for community gatherings. Its conference room is available for $20 per hour and accommodates approximately 30 people. The room includes a sink and an attached restroom. Refreshments and bartender services for evening gatherings can be arranged. An upstairs reception space accommodates up to 100 people and has hosted gatherings including bridal showers and a recent wedding.
