MINOCQUA, Wis. — Minocqua Winter Park will open the road to Squirrel Hill Overlook during three weekends in October, giving visitors an opportunity to take in fall colors from one of the Northwoods’ highest scenic viewpoints. The park’s annual Drive Up Days will be held Oct. 3–4, Oct. 10–11 and Oct. 17–18. The gate will be open from noon to 4 p.m. each day at 7543 Squirrel Hill Road in Minocqua. Admission is free, although a donation of $20 per vehicle is appreciated. Located atop Squirrel Hill near the Minocqua fire tower, the overlook offers expansive views of the surrounding landscape, including Yukon Creek as it winds toward the Squirrel River below. Visitors will also be able to tour the park’s new Tower House pavilion. An information table will highlight Minocqua Winter Park’s history, upcoming events and projects, as well as opportunities to volunteer. The four-season Tower House is available to rent and can also serve as a destination during a day of snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, hiking, mountain biking or disc golf at the park. Drive Up Days are part of Minocqua Winter Park’s ongoing effort to offer outdoor programs and educational opportunities for residents and visitors throughout the Northwoods.
