By David Murchland - Marshfield Now! MARSHFIELD, Wis. — Wisconsin Stormwater Awareness Week is being observed Sept. 19–27, 2026. The City of Marshfield is using the occasion to encourage residents to learn how everyday activities can affect local water quality. Stormwater is rain or melting snow that flows across streets, sidewalks, rooftops, lawns and other surfaces. As it moves through the community, the water can pick up leaves, grass clippings, litter and other debris before entering storm drains and eventually reaching local waterways. Residents can help protect those waterways by keeping streets and storm drains clear. Leaves and grass clippings should be collected or kept on lawns rather than blown into the street. Litter and other debris should also be properly disposed of before it can be carried away by runoff. Although these actions may seem small, they can make a meaningful difference when residents work together. Keeping debris out of the stormwater system helps protect Marshfield’s waterways while keeping the community clean. Wisconsin Stormwater Awareness Week serves as a reminder that protecting water quality begins close to home.
