MARSHFIELD, Wis. — Students who missed the traditional August start of the college semester still have an opportunity to begin classes this fall at Mid-State Technical College. More than 100 undergraduate course sections are scheduled to begin in October and later this fall, allowing students to begin or continue working toward a college credential without waiting for the spring semester. Students interested in earning a degree can begin any Mid-State associate degree program at mid-term and use available courses to start making progress toward their credential. “At Mid-State, we know students don’t all start their college journey at the same time,” said Kimberly Valenza, dean of enrollment strategy at Mid-State. “For someone who wasn’t ready to begin in August, mid-term provides another opportunity to get started without waiting until January.” Fall mid-term offerings cover a wide range of subjects, including general education, business, technology, manufacturing, health care, public safety, agriculture, construction and skilled trades. Classes are available in online, in-person and hybrid formats. Courses beginning later this fall include English Composition I, Introduction to Psychology, Accounting I, Marketing Principles, Project Management, Introduction to Artificial Intelligence, Advanced Industrial Robotics, Medical Terminology, Criminal Investigation and several courses in welding, fabrication, construction, HVAC, automotive and agriculture. Mid-State is also offering several short-term Continuing Education opportunities for people who are not pursuing a degree. The courses are designed for participants looking to develop workplace skills, explore an interest or learn something new. One of those opportunities will be offered locally at Mid-State’s Marshfield Campus. Cake Decorating for Beginners is scheduled for Oct. 14 and will teach basic cake decorating and frosting techniques, with participants creating a finished cake to take home. Other upcoming Continuing Education courses include Pumpkins and Can-O-Lanterns at the AMETA Center on Oct. 8, Leadership & Followership at the Adams Campus on Oct. 21, Mental Health First Aid at the Stevens Point Downtown Campus on Nov. 5, and Baking Essentials for Beginners at the Wisconsin Rapids Campus beginning Nov. 30. “Starting college doesn’t have to be an all-or-nothing decision,” Valenza said. “Taking one class can be that first step.” Mid-State Technical College has campuses in Marshfield, Adams, Stevens Point and Wisconsin Rapids and is one of 16 colleges in the Wisconsin Technical College System.
