WOOD COUNTY, Wis. — A new community initiative launching next year aims to improve transportation access for residents of central Wisconsin, particularly those who struggle to reach medical care, jobs, education and essential services. Central Wisconsin Catch a Ride is expected to launch in May 2026 and will serve residents of Wood County and surrounding areas. The program is a partnership between the Wood County Health Department and Feonix Mobility Rising’s Catch a Ride Network, with additional support from members of Leadership Marshfield’s Class of 2025. Organizers say the effort was developed in response to community feedback and data showing significant transportation gaps across the region. According to the 2024 Wood County Community Health Assessment, 28% of more than 3,200 respondents reported missing work, medical appointments or other important events in the past year due to a lack of transportation. Project leaders say the data highlight the need for expanded and coordinated transportation services. By working with local providers, Central Wisconsin Catch a Ride aims to offer reliable and affordable mobility options for residents of all ages and abilities. The program’s mission includes raising awareness, strengthening partnerships and securing funding to support long-term sustainability. Organizers say collaboration with community leaders and organizations will be key to building a transportation network that ensures residents can access essential destinations.
