MADISON, Wis. — As students return to classrooms across Wisconsin, state health officials are urging families to check their children's vaccination records and make sure they are up to date, particularly as Wisconsin continues to deal with a measles outbreak.
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services says back-to-school vaccinations are an important way to protect children from serious vaccine-preventable illnesses and help keep students healthy and in school.
“Back-to-school vaccinations are always important, and especially now with a measles outbreak in our state,” State Health Officer Paula Tran said. “Now is the best time for families to make sure their children have the protection they need to support their own health, and the health of their classrooms.”
DHS recommends that parents and caregivers review their children's vaccination records and contact a health care provider if they have questions or discover that vaccinations are due.
Families can also check immunization records through the Wisconsin Immunization Registry, which provides access to vaccination information for both children and adults.
Health officials say checking records early gives families time to speak with a health care provider, ask questions and schedule any needed vaccinations.
The reminder comes as the 2026-27 school year gets underway and Wisconsin health officials continue responding to measles cases in the state.
