Bandshell restoration, Weinbrenner update and court appointment before Marshfield council

By David Murchland - Marshfield Now!

MARSHFIELD, Wis. — The Marshfield Common Council will take up several major development, infrastructure and personnel matters when it meets Tuesday, including next steps for restoring the historic Columbia Park Bandshell and a temporary municipal court judge appointment.

The council is expected to consider authorizing a request for proposals for architectural and engineering services related to improvements at the Columbia Park Bandshell. The Art Deco-style structure, built in 1931 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, has been the focus of a community fundraising effort aimed at preserving the venue while maintaining its historic character. The proposed work would evaluate existing conditions and identify potential restoration and accessibility improvements.

Council members will also receive a staff report on the condition of the former Weinbrenner building and an update on city funds spent under its contract with Vandewalle & Associates related to implementation of the West Second Street redevelopment plan. No action is recommended on the report, which is being presented for informational purposes.

Among action items, the council is scheduled to vote on a recommendation from the Municipal Court Judge Selection Team to temporarily appoint Krista James as municipal court judge until a special election is held. The appointment would fill the position on an interim basis.

The agenda also includes a request to authorize execution of a contract with Eventures Presents for entertainment purchasing consulting services tied to the 2026 Wenzel Family Plaza concert series. The contract would support planning and booking for next summer’s performances.

Additional consent agenda items include approving requests for proposals for the Braem Park wet detention basin project, accepting an engineering services proposal for the Lincoln Avenue lift station project, and authorizing a request for proposals related to the Columbia Park Bandshell project. Council members may also act on a series of committee minutes, bills and reports.

Following the open session, the council is scheduled to convene in closed session to discuss a Marshfield Utilities wholesale power contract, a potential agreement involving the Marshfield Professional Police Association and a specific employee, and matters related to promotions or compensation adjustments. The council may reconvene in open session to take action if appropriate.

The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall, 207 W. Sixth St. Public comments will be accepted during the designated portion of the agenda. The meeting will be streamed live on the city’s website and Marshfield Broadcasting platforms.
