MARSHFIELD --
Local author and musician Theresa Blume was recently featured on the Marshfield Now! TV program, where she sat down for a heartfelt conversation about her journey as a writer, her newly published children’s book, and her upcoming book signing event.

Blume, a long-time Marshfield resident, discussed how her writing passion began in childhood as a form of expression and escape growing up in a large, sometimes noisy household. “I would go out to the pasture and the trees… and write from a very early age,” Blume shared. “Writing was my way of expressing things.”

Now an author of several books, including spiritual works, autobiographical stories, and children’s books, Blume reflected on her decades-long journey to bring one special story to life — a children’s book she co-created with her son 27 years ago. The book, titled Tony's First Day, tells a dinosaur-themed story inspired by her son’s childhood love of dinosaurs and his experiences with moving and facing bullies. “We made the bullies meat-eaters,” she said with a laugh, referencing how she and her son brought the characters to life through storytelling and illustrations.

Though the story was initially shelved after an early inquiry with a major publisher, Blume revisited the manuscript in recent years and decided it was time to finally bring it to the public. The book is now available through Amazon and Barnes & Noble, and Blume plans to sell signed copies at an upcoming public event.

Blume will host a book signing on Saturday, August 30, at the front entrance of the Marshfield Mall, where she’ll be present from the mall’s opening until close. Alongside the new book, she will also have copies of her spiritual music CDs available for purchase.

During the interview, Blume also shared details about her other works, including her Cheddar the Kidder series, which features a whimsical friendship between a cat and a guardian mouse named Sparkles, as well as her deeply personal books written during a period of recovery and self-discovery.

Her music, much like her writing, focuses on encouragement and spirituality. “I don’t record other people’s music,” she noted. “I only sing songs I’ve written — songs from the heart.”

Blume’s creative work continues to inspire and connect with people across various platforms, including YouTube and TikTok, where she shares messages of hope and healing. She also hinted at future projects, including a children’s music CD and possible sequels to Tony’s First Day if demand continues.
